Lawrence's Goldfinch
Among North America's best songbirds, the male Lawrence's American Goldfinches are soft gray, with a black face that stands out with lots of lemon yellow. But the species' preference for remote, arid areas of California and the desert southwest keeps it unknown to many bird watchers. It is also a type of wild animal that moves around at any time of the year in search of rain, crops and drinking water. Although still abundant, the Lawrence's Goldfinch is on the yellow watch list for restricted species.
